Michael Rubenstein, a Town Meeting member, entrepreneur and housing advocate, is running for Select Board.
In a letter announcing his run, Rubenstein said he aims to prioritize dealing with the town’s fiscal constraints, addressing rising property taxes and unaffordable housing costs and responding to climate change and environmental degradation.
Rubenstein joins two other Town Meeting members who previously announced their candidacies for an open seat on the town’s highest elected board: small business owner Liz Linder and architect Carlos Ridruejo.
Linder said in an announcement she will focus on housing, climate and sustainability, transportation and mobility and financial accountability. Ridruejo names “climate change, housing pressures, and the tax burden on our most vulnerable residents” as his top issues on his campaign website.
The three are running to replace Michael Sandman, who announced in December he would not run for reelection when his three-year term on the board ends in May.
More candidates could still enter the race. Candidates have until March 18 to submit nomination papers to the town clerk’s office.
Editor’s note: Stay tuned later this spring for more coverage of the election, including in-depth interviews with every candidate for town-wide office.
