I strongly disagree with the statement you reported by candidate Liz Linder that although she “initially opposed a proposal to build affordable housing for seniors on the Kent Street/Station Street parking lot” but that she “came around to support the proposed development after participating in town committees for the project. . . .”
I served on those committees with Liz. I am an architect, and was a longstanding member of EDAB and a Town Meeting member in Precinct 13. My firm memory is that Liz NEVER supported the proposed senior housing, which would have added 50+ affordable senior units in a desirable location in Brookline Village. Even after it was approved by the Select Board 2019, she continued to oppose efforts to get it built. This is clearly demonstrated by her abstention on Warrant Article 30 in April 2022, which provided a path to move the project forward. WA30 was supported by the Select Board, Advisory Committee, Chamber of Commerce, Brookline Village Merchants Association, and more than 80% of Town Meeting, but not by Liz. Refusing to vote to advance an affordable senior housing development is not “support,” and it is not the leadership we need in Brookline.
