The idea of building an outdoor pool in Brookline must be coming from the same people who feel equally passionate about spending millions of taxpayer dollars in “re-imagining” the ice skating rink at Larz Anderson Park.
Practically every issue of Brookline.News contains an article about one of two major issues that Brookline is grappling with:
1) Not enough of a tax revenue base to fund necessary departments (e.g. education).
2) Not enough real estate development opportunities to increase our revenue base (Chestnut Hill / Route 9).
Yet, the same “spendthrifts” who are probably renters and therefore NOT directly impacted by quarterly real estate taxes, are looking for Brookline to develop recreational amenities, as it the town has absolutely no fiscal issues, and more opportunities to develop our real estate tax base than we know what to do with. Both are NOT the case!
How about we act responsibly and increase our tax base BEFORE we spend money that we currently don’t have and will have to, YET AGAIN, increase the real estate taxes that Brookline’s homeowners have to pay?
