The mission of the nonprofit Coolidge is to entertain, inform, and engage, building vital community through film culture.
The Coolidge’s expansion addresses several mission and financial-driven objectives. Two new screens will support more curated programming, especially international and documentary films. The new lobby will eliminate the need for customers to queue outside and increase time to access concessions. The education and community engagement center will support robust film education programs for all ages, support more collaborations with other arts and cultural organizations, and further establish the Coolidge as a major cultural institution centered on film.
Long-term economic sustainability is a key objective. Revenue growth from our current space is capped by capacity (ticket prices are market driven), while expenses grow with inflation.
Thanks to generous donors, the cost of the expansion will be fully funded by public and private contributions. We have raised over 90 percent of the project cost and we will continue to fund-raise.
We will own the new building, and maintenance costs will pale in comparison to those of our current structure. New revenue will exceed expenses, since we will leverage existing infrastructure and staff. The net result will be an operating surplus.
