The Brookline Community Foundation and the Emerald Necklace Conservancy are sponsoring Brookline Community Parkfest, a day outdoors in Olmsted Park featuring performances, vendors, games and more. The event is free and open to the public.

At the weekend’s Coolidge Corner Sidewalk Sale, local businesses and other vendors will offer their wares along area walkways.

Wednesday, Aug. 2
The Brookline Recreation Department is launching what it hopes will become a summer tradition: a free concert at the Brookline Golf Course. The Zac Brown Tribute Band will perform, along with the Tom Petty tribute band Petty Larceny and Vanessa Trien and the Jumping Monkeys. The event will also feature food trucks, a beer garden and a children’s zone.
Aug. 2 from 3-9 p.m. at the Brookline Golf Course (1281 W Roxbury Parkway). Admission is free with advanced reservations or $5 at the door. Limited parking is available for $25.
Sunday, Aug. 6
Brookline Adult and Community Education leads a two-mile walking tour of historic Beacon Street, which will get into “the zoning, layout, and architecture of the street, and how politics and the values of the day shaped changes.”
Aug. 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. starting at the CVS in Cleveland Circle (1927 Beacon Street). The tour costs $30 and requires advance registration.
Sunday, Aug. 13
A special literary event, organized by Peter Brown and Catherine Parnell and hosted by the Brookline Public Library, features readings from two local authors and an open mic for attendees to share five minutes of their own prose.

Friday, Aug. 18
The Coolidge Corner Theater hosts a Boston hip hop showcase, part of its month-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of hip hop. Local artists DJ 7L, Akrobatik and STL GLD will perform. Check out the full schedule of events on the Coolidge’s calendar.

Friday, Aug. 25
Brookline Booksmith hosts a free book talk, on the new work of nonfiction “American Breakdown: Our Ailing Nation, My Body’s Revolt, and the Nineteenth-Century Woman Who Brought Me Back to Life” with author Jennifer Lunden, in conversation with women’s health journalist Catherine Guthrie.

Sunday, Sept. 10
Brookline Day, a celebration put on by the town, takes place in Coolidge Corner. Planning for the event is still in the works, but you can expect a main stage with performances, a “touch-a-truck” and children’s zone at the Florida Ruffin Ridley School, as well as a wellness stage and food vendors.
