Tucked into a budget bill recently passed by the state legislature and signed by Governor Maura Healey was a $100,000 earmark for the town of Brookline to install two new Bluebikes stations.
There are already 13 of the bikeshare stations in Brookline, but the two new stations will bring more opportunities for commuters or recreational riders to get around on two wheels, thanks to State Representative Tommy Vitolo and State Senator Cindy Creem, who teamed up to secure the funds.
“The earmark I filed will fund two Bluebikes stations, their bikes and e-bikes, and sitework for installation, helping North Brookline achieve station density similar to Cambridgeport, Kenmore/Fenway, the Back Bay, and the Longwood Medical Area,” said Vitolo in an email to Brookline.News.
Where will they go? Yet to be determined, according to Amy Ingles, the town’s transportation administrator.
“We have some location ideas that we will be bringing to the public for feedback in the late summer or early fall,” Ingles said in an email to Brookline.News.
In the meantime, Ingles and her team also want to hear from the public for new ideas about the best spots for the new stations.
